Watchet Walking Week 2025

As part of the Somerset and Exmoor Coast Festival here in Watchet we have a week of walks.  Commencing on Monday 7th April and finishing on Saturday 12th April. All bookings are through Watchet Visitor Centre. Info@lovewatchet.co.uk or 01984 632101

Monday 7th April
Art Walk 10.30am from the Visitor Centre, 11am from Studio 10 at East Quay

Join Artist Alison Jacobs for a walk around the beautiful seaside town of Watchet. Learn about Watchet’s Art history. JMW Turner, Hanz Schwarz and Doris Hatt are some of the artists who found inspiration here. Enjoy a fun talk as we go around town and stop whilst Alison demonstrates painting a Watchet scene.

If people want to bring their sketching kit that’s fine but there is no expectation for you to make work so non-artistic visitors can join in just for the stroll and talk. The direction of the walk will be dependant on those booking. The artist hopes to go up Splash Point and along the Esplanade to the lighthouse and back to look at East Quay.

Tuesday 8th April
Poetry Walk 11am from Watchet Visitor Centre

Meet local poet Anne Lovejoy at the Visitor Centre for a walk around Watchet.  

A gentle stroll taking in the Esplanade, East Quay and the lighthouse whilst listening to the Quantock Poets reading their poems. An opportunity to encounter the Quantock Poetry Trail soundscape located in Watchet and some ‘live’ poems along the way. Led by Anne, a member of the Quantock Poets, and fellow poets. Dogs welcome. Coco the Cockerpoo will be reading her poem. Anne will be collecting donations for ‘Words in Watchet’ which happens in February 2025.

Wednesday 9th April
Toddler walk 10.00 meeting on The Esplanade, Watchet

Come and join with Little Saints Toddler Group, Watchet Salvation Army, on a toddle on the Esplanade and up to Watchet Memorial Field where your little one can play in the play in the play area if the weather allows. Why not find out more about this lovely friendly toddler group that meet regularly here in Watchet. All adults must be accompanied by children! 

The toddle is open to all and is accessible to prams and buggies. Bring along a snack or your lunch and spend time meeting with friends or making new friends.

Wednesday 9th April
Shanty Walk  14.00 from Watchet Visitor Centre

Meet Watchet Bell Man, David Milton, at Watchet Visitor Centre for the start of a walk with a difference. Wander the street and harbour, Listening  to David sing Sea Shanties around various landmarks. There will be opportunity to join in with familiar shanties and learn a refrain or two for less well known ones!

This walk is bookable at Watchet Visitor Centre.  The walk is accessible and is at a leisurely pace around Watchet Town taking in many of the places of Historic interest.  The walk is suitable for all.

Thursday 10th April
Coast Walk 10.00 from Watchet Visitor Centre

Meet your walk guide Isobel Pring, at the Visitor Centre bright and early for this the longest walk in Watchet Walking Week.  Walk from Watchet along the coast path to Blue Anchor or Minehead. Return to Watchet using the WSR or from Minehead the No 28 bus. 

Isobel is the trail officer for the King Charles III England Coast Path in Somerset.

Duration: 4-5hrs       Cost: £1Booking via Watchet Visitor Centre + Donation to Isobel for Waterproofs & Wellies for Coastal Primary Schools

Friday 11th April
Natural History Walk  11.00 from Watchet Visitor Centre

Meet your walk guide Dr Mandy at the Visitor Centre for a walk around Watchet and down to West Street Beach. Ideal for Families, learn about fossils, eco systems and much more!

Duration: 2 hours Cost: £1 booking at Watchet Visitor Centre + £4 per person to Dr Mandy

Saturday 12th April
Singing Walk 2pm from Harbour Road Car Park

Join with members of Watchet Community Choir on a singing tour of Watchets enviable acoustic spaces. We will be joined along the way by local musicians to accompany our singing.  Visit covered areas, buildings and tunnels stopping to sing. Feel free to join in or just enjoy the sound of people singing together,

Watchet Community Choir sing for pleasure, all abilities are welcome to join in. No rehearsals will be required! This walk will be suitable for families with children.  The walk finishes at Watchet Methodist Church where their will be Tea & Cake available for a small price, raising funds for the local church.

Duration: 2hrs    Cost: £1 booking fee and a donation for the Tea & Cake.

The Trafalgar Day celebrations start today on The Esplanade with the Sea Scouts, the RNLI, Live Music and so much more.

For those of you who think Watchet is a sleepy little seaside town, think again! There is so much to do and most of its for free. Take a look at the program of events scheduled for this month on lovewatchet events calendar and get outside and enjoy!

Celebrate Autumn in Watchet 2022

ITS GETTING COLD!

As the nights draw in and the wind begins to blow Autumn is quickly upon us! Why not pop into Watchet and see what’s going on. The local shops have started to dress their windows with their Autumn Stock.

With the half term break at the end of October check out the the things you can do!

THINGS TO DO

There is a Fairy Trail from the Visitor Centre and some of the shops will have treat baskets for the children completing the trail!  Why not hunt for a Woodland Creature Pebble around the town? Each pebble will send you to the place to collect your prize!

Look out for a Hedgehog Event with a Hedgehog craft, information about looking after local hedgehogs and a colouring competition.

One of last years colouring entries ……….. isn’t it fantastic!

Cosmo the Robot is visiting the Library with interactive fun and story telling. Serendipity Cafe have Halloween ornaments for you to paint and East Quay have Gargole themed creative workshops!

There is a Fossil Walk and a Spooky Walk from the Visitor Centre as part of the half term fun.

Then at the end of the week there is a choice of Parties for Halloween, whether you are a child or an adult there is something for you!
